Sanya is a year-round destination, but the most pleasant time to visit is from November to March, when the weather is warm but not overly humid. Nevertheless, visiting during the off-peak season in the summer can provide a quieter and more budget-friendly experience, as tourist numbers dwindle, offering travelers plenty of space to explore.

Tourists can purchase a transportation card, which offers discounted fares and seamless travel across various services. The city is also planning to expand its metro network, providing even more options for easy travel.
- Ensure to bring sunscreen as Sanya is sunny most of the year. It's recommended to have cash on hand as some establishments may not accept cards. Learning a few basic phrases in Mandarin can be helpful, as not everyone speaks English fluently.
- Sanya is generally a safe city, but like anywhere else, be vigilant about your surroundings to avoid petty theft. Emergency numbers to know include 110 for police and 120 for medical emergencies. Tap water is not drinkable, so bottled water is recommended.
